Atomic History
Over the past two weeks we have been talking about the history of atomic theory. Choose one of the scientists whose ideas contributed to modern atomic theory. Describe their ideas and how their discovery is important to what we now know about atoms. This assignment must be completed by Friday (12/1) at 8am.

i choose Bohr said that electrons jump path to path on a electron cloud
November 27th, 2006 at 4:33 pm
Democritus discovered atoms. He said that if you keep cutting a coin eventually you will end with an ” uncuttable” particle. He called this an atom, which comes from the Greek word atomos, meaning indivisible. Aristotle did not believe his conclusions.
November 27th, 2006 at 5:38 pm
Bohr showed us that for an electron cloud, many electrons jump from path to path, and that is what he showed us. This has to do with the atomic theory.
November 27th, 2006 at 6:21 pm
Democratus was the person who found out what an atom was and gave it its name from the word ATOMOS which means uncuttable I THINK
November 27th, 2006 at 6:46 pm
I picked J.J Thomson he found an error in Daltons theory. He also discovered there are actually small particles inside an atom. He made a chocolate chip ice cream model. He discovered that atoms is mostly a postively charged material.
November 27th, 2006 at 11:18 pm
Dalton said that all substances are made of atoms.Atoms are small particles that cannot be created, divided, or destroyed.Atoms of the same elements are exacly alike, and atoms of different elements are different. Atoms join with other atoms to make new substances.
November 28th, 2006 at 11:06 am
DEMOCRATUS had a therory that an atom was a solid ball and that atoms could not be cut into a smaller particle
November 28th, 2006 at 4:38 pm
DALTON belived that all substances are made of atoms….. and he was right!!
November 28th, 2006 at 5:51 pm
democritis was the founder of the meaning of an atom which the definition of an atom is at some point it cant be cut anymore
November 28th, 2006 at 6:21 pm
I would pick Bohr, he said that electrons jump path to path on electron clouds.
November 28th, 2006 at 7:17 pm
Democritus: Democritus said that if you keep cutiing a coin in half then you will eventually end up with and “uncuttable” particle. He called it and atom. The word atom comes from the greek word “atomos” wihch means indivisible.Aristotle did not believe him.
November 28th, 2006 at 8:54 pm
I would chose Bohr because he said that Electrons travel around the nucleus, and he was right. he made a good contribution to our modern day theory.
November 28th, 2006 at 10:26 pm
I’m going to pick Democritus. I pick him because he is the one that came up with the theory that you can keep cutting a subtance or object, till you finally reach an “uncuttable” piece or something that is indivisible. But it was a shame because another well known philosopher named Aristotle, disagreed completely with Democriyus so for like 1,000 years people thought Democritus was wrong, and Aristotle was right!!!!!!!!!!!!
November 29th, 2006 at 8:37 am
Thomson was a man that lived during 1897 that stated that there are small, negatively charged partices in an atom.He also conducted the cathode-ray tube experiment. His theory of atomic structure became the “plum-pudding” model.
November 29th, 2006 at 11:06 am
Democrutis, because he thought there would would always be a uncuttable piece, and he was predicted wrong by Dalton.. i think ?
November 29th, 2006 at 11:09 am
The person I type about here is Democratus, he was the Greek philosopher who discovered an atom was an uncutable particle, and stated if you keep cuting a coin in half you will eventually end up with an uncutable substance.
November 29th, 2006 at 5:43 pm
Democratus, because he was the one who discovered the atom. He said that if you keep cutting an object in half you will end up with an uncuttible particle which he named the atom because it come from the greek word “atomos” which means uncuttable. Without him we might not even know about the atom and what it is today.
November 29th, 2006 at 6:47 pm
Democritus:democritus is the “scientist who came up with the coin being an uncuttable particle. He is the guy who acually came up with the atom itself.he called it atom coming from the greek word atomos that means “indivisible”.yet aristotle didnt believe his “theory”.Democritus lived around 440 B.C. in Greece.
November 29th, 2006 at 7:52 pm
I chose democritus on thing he said that if you keep cutting a coin eventually you will come to a particle that is uncuttable. He was the one who came up with the atom and people did not belive his theory.he lived in 440 b.c. in Greece.
November 29th, 2006 at 8:58 pm
Democritous…He discovered the atom. He also said if you keep cutting a susbstace it will become “uncuttable” or indivisible.
November 29th, 2006 at 9:46 pm
Democritus because he was the scientsist who discovered atoms were “uncuttable”. He also discovered that everything was made up of these atoms, which moved around in a void (a vacuum)
November 29th, 2006 at 10:21 pm
I picked Democritus because he is one of the my favorite and the one that i know most about he said cutting a coin it would eventully you would come to a particle that will be uncuttable and he was the one who came up with the atom and people did not believe his thory
November 29th, 2006 at 10:22 pm
I picked Democritus because he is one of the my favorite and the one that i know most about he said cutting a coin it would eventully you would come to a particle that will be uncuttable and he was the one who came up with the atom and people did not believe his theory
November 30th, 2006 at 8:30 am
Democratis discovered atoms. he said once you cut a coin so many times it will be uncuttable.
November 30th, 2006 at 8:31 am
Damocritus lived in 440 b.c. and he sai atams were uncuttable and that you could divide a substance until you got to an atom
November 30th, 2006 at 9:39 am
Democrotus had a theory that if you took something and kept cutting it eventually you would come upon a part that would be indivisible(uncuttable)
November 30th, 2006 at 10:36 am
democrotus thery if you cept cuting somthing eventually it will come to an uncuttable state. ~~~~~~~~~~$ YEAH $~~~~~~~~~~~
November 30th, 2006 at 11:05 am
democritus he discovered the atom and also named it
November 30th, 2006 at 2:48 pm
my step dad he proved the theary that a car can run of of pure iar with no feal needed what so ever.
November 30th, 2006 at 4:33 pm
I choose democritus. Democritius said that if u take a coin and keep cutting it and cutting then eventually u will come to a substance the will become “uncuttable”. He also made up the name for an atom “atomos” its greek for atom.
November 30th, 2006 at 4:46 pm
I chose Democritius cause he came up with the idea that if you have a coin and you cut it and cut it and cut it that you wil end up with an “uncuttable” piece. He was wrong but his idea then was led to the thingking about atoms. He came up with the word atom from the Greek word “atomos”. He is an important scientist followed by many others.
November 30th, 2006 at 5:09 pm
Well…
Democritus seemed like a pretty cool guy.
Cuz like ehhh idk
he came up with atoms and without him we would be stupid and we wouldnt be able todraw little pictures of atoms in mr. woods class!
November 30th, 2006 at 5:43 pm
Democritus said that atoma are small, hard particles, also that atoms are “uncuttable”, and that they constantly move.
with much hearts&;
November 30th, 2006 at 5:44 pm
Democritus said that atoms are uncuttable. If you cut up a coin to where it is uncuttable then it will be a perfect example of an atom but he was wrong.
November 30th, 2006 at 5:51 pm
Well…A Wise Old Man Once Said “If You Keep On Cutting An Atom Then Eventually There Willl Become An “Uncuttable” Piece.”
-Democritus

Oh.And Tabitha Elise Stewart III Is Soooooo Right
Love You Tabii
November 30th, 2006 at 6:19 pm
Democritus was the scientist who said if you keep cutting an atom then you will get a substance that cannot be cut down anymore he also named the atoms.
November 30th, 2006 at 7:06 pm
i like bohr because he looks like a caveman and i like his theory
November 30th, 2006 at 7:44 pm
Democritus discovered atoms.
He said that if you keep cutting like metal eventually you will end with an “uncuttable” particle. He called this an atom which comes from the Greek word “atomos” meaning indivisible.
November 30th, 2006 at 7:45 pm
i choose bohr he said that electrons jump path to path on a electron cloud
November 30th, 2006 at 8:40 pm
i would pick Democritous he discovered the atom. He also said if you keep cutting a susbstace it will become “uncuttable” or indivisible.

Democritus. I pick him because hes the one that came up with the theory that you can keep cutting a subtance or object, till you finally reach an “uncuttable” piece or something that is indivisible
November 30th, 2006 at 8:50 pm
Democritous, because he came up with the theory of atoms, and that it is “uncuttable”
November 30th, 2006 at 9:32 pm
If I had to choose, which I do, I would have to choose Schrodinger & Heisenhberg. Althow all the scientists contributed to todays ideas of the atom i bealeave that they have corrected and goave the best contribution to todays modern theory of the atom. Many scientists back then fallowed the thought of the electrons being on some sort of pattern. But Schrodinger & Heisenhberg came up whith the electrons beeing in electronclouds, where electrons are LIKELY to be found. This hase also been agreed with the modern scientists. So, in this fashion I bealeave that Schridinger & Heisenhberg have the biggest contribution twords the Modern Atomic Theory.
November 30th, 2006 at 9:37 pm
Democritous said atoms are uncuttable. He also said they cannot be destroyed. But that was proven wrong. He was one of the first scientists who studied it in the late 1800’s.
November 30th, 2006 at 9:48 pm
Democritous, because he said that if you keep dividing something you will end up with an uncuttable piece which is the atom of the particle you are cutting
November 30th, 2006 at 10:43 pm
Democritus:
He came up with the theory that if you keep cutting a coin in half that you will end up with a piece that is uncutable.
November 30th, 2006 at 10:46 pm
Bohr: He said that electrons travel in definite paths.
November 30th, 2006 at 11:05 pm
I choose dalton and he says that all substances are made of atoms.Atoms of the same elements are exacly alike, and atoms of different elements are different.he also says that that atoms join with other atoms to make new substances.

Democritus said that if you cut an object over and over you would eventually end up with an “uncuttable” particle that he called the atom, after the Greek word “atomos”.
December 6th, 2006 at 8:48 am
demosritus is the one that made the correct theary about the atom so there for he is the one that contributed the atom.
December 6th, 2006 at 1:49 pm
THE ATOMiC THEORY iS PRETTY FUN BECAUSE YOU LEARN WHO iNVENTED THE ATOMS & ALL THOSE THiNGS. SO YEAH.. FUN(:
December 12th, 2006 at 8:08 pm
I like democratis beacuase nhe said that if you cut an atom over and over again yoiu will eventually hanve an uncutable atom, the word atom came from the greek word atomas
December 13th, 2006 at 4:09 pm
Democritus discovered atoms. He said that if you keep cutting a coin eventually you will end up with an ” uncuttable” particle. He called this an atom, in greek it is called an atomos, meaning indivisible. Aristotle did not believe his conclusions.
